Apothecary Art Framed Latch

apothecary art

Hello! OK, if we can get a break from medical issues at our house, I think I’ll finally be back to stamping and blogging! This is a special fold card with a frame that also serves as a latch. Lots of fun.  The picture below shows how it opens.

You create the frame by laying two dies on your cardstock and running them through the Big Shot together. Then you attach them to the card by only adding adhesive to half of the frame and focal piece and attaching them to opposite sides of the gatefold to create an interlocking latch. The ribbon creates a pull for easy opening. I added color to the embossed base by using the direct to paper technique and drawing two colors across the already embossed images. This requires a very light touch, but I love the pop of color that it adds when you need a little extra something on your card. I’ll try to get a tutorial made for this card, so you can try one for yourself, we made these at stamp camp and workshops this month.

Thanks for looking!

Apothecary Art and New Catalog Info

As you can see from the countdown clock in my sidebar, it is only 2 weeks till the new Annual Catalog goes live!  There are so many fun new stamps and tools and I think you will love the new streamlined style of the catalog.

The catalog is a little smaller and Stampin Up has made them much less expensive for us to purchase (and less expensive for you too!) So I am changing up the way I handle the catalog a little bit. I am excited to announce that this year I will be able to offer them free with a $25 purchase (one per customer) or for those who just want to purchase a catalog with no order, the catalog price will be $5. You will still get one free when you host a workshop. I’ll also be doing some random giveaways if you would like to earn one free that way. Also, for any customer who purchases at least $50 from me over this catalog year, you will earn next years catalog free as well, and will be able to pick it up as soon as they begin arriving next year. I love that this new system will allow me to give free catalogs to my current customers as we go forward. As always, owning the catalog will insure that you will receive the Holiday and Spring catalogs. These will be much larger than the previous mini catalogs, so they will have many more seasonal products in them and they will be current for a full 5 months. More time to get your favorite goodies!

I used a lot of different sets on this card. I really like the way many of our vintage sets work together, it makes it fairly easy to put together a collage type card. I started with the Parlor Prints background stamped in Crumb cake on Crumb cake card stock. Then I randomly stamped Established Elegance images in Soft Suede. They were placed so they would show behind the focal piece. I stamped and cut out the Apothecary Art image and added a layer of soft suede card stock which I cut out with the Labels Collection Framelits. Finally, I added a couple of strips of designer paper and did some distressing and sponging. These are really simple techniques, but combined with these beautiful images, it’s easy to get that vintage look. I am stocking up on this Beau Chateau paper, it’s a favorite and I hate to see it retire!

Thanks for stopping by!

I have a pretty card for you today, but first I wanted to share a few exciting announcements that were made by Stampin’ Up! this week. Our catalog and catalog schedule is changing a bit! First, the Annual Catalog will be unveiled a month early, June 2012! Then we will have 2 seasonal catalogs that will be larger than the mini catalogs and they will come out in August and January and as the name implies, they will house all of the seasonal stuff and will run 5 months instead of 3. I really think I am going to like this format.

We are also getting a new diagonal score board insert for our Simply Scored tool, for making envelopes and boxes and such! This should be available in March. It is a full sized board that will just sit on top of the Simply Scored. Only $11.95. I can’t wait for this!!

And on February 1st, we are releasing a one month FREE trial to My Digital Studio! What a great way to try out this neat program!

This is a fairly simple card, it just shows how the right tools can make quick work of creating cards. This one looks fairly elaborate, but it really just took a few quick steps. The new Labels Collection Framelits work with the Apothecary Art set { LOVE }. So I centered my framelit die, cut, and then embossed for the top layer. I stamped the image and colored it, using a smaller piece of card stock so that I could easily center it in the frame. Popped up the sentiment and then added a bow. Love the elegant look of this set! And I love the banners and sentiments that can be used with so many other sets, as well!

I hope you get to stamp today!
