Matchbox Die Christmas Countdown

Matchbox die Christmas Countdown

Oh my goodness, to say that this project was a journey from concept to complete is quite an understatement! This was not what I originally had envisioned, but it is close. Of course now that it is finished, I have at least figured out how I could have made the original plan work!

The general concept is to stack 24 matchboxes together to form a chest and to hide a trinket, candy or other surprise in each little drawer. Each day the corresponding drawer is opened to reveal a prize and then the drawer is turned around when it is replaced. The back of the chest has a design that is revealed as the countdown progresses.

In general, it is a fairly easy project. I did come up with several tips to make it easier as well as a host of “don’t let this happen to you” examples! There is definitely a trick to getting the drawers ordered correctly when you flip them around to reveal a picture.

I am giving away a free tutorial for this project to anyone who places an order in my online store in December! Be sure to enter your email address in your information so that I can contact you within 24 hours to send your tutorial.

12 Gifts of Christmas

Tags Til Christmas

Tags til Christmas

Over the next few weeks I’ll be highlighting several gift Ideas that are perfect for holiday giving. I’ll be covering a lot of different gift options and decided to start with one that is quick and easy and inexpensive.

This cute little collection of tags is one of those simple little items that you can tuck in to a festive gift basket as a little extra or is great when you need a bunch of inexpensive gifts. Our PTA used to give a little something to each teacher and support staff each day of the week leading up to the Christmas break and this would be perfect for that. It would also be a great item if you wanted to leave a little something on all of your co-workers desks.

Who can’t use a few extra Christmas tags for those last minute gifts? I literally stamped this in less than 10 minutes. I stamped a bunch of images on Whisper White card stock and punched them out using various punches. This set is wonderful, because each stamp has a coordinating punch.(AND it is on sale this month for 20% off when you buy it with the Decorative Label punch!) It took no time at all. I layered a few on additional punched pieces and added to/from on the back of a few. To finish them off, I tied string on about half of them and put a strip of sticky strip on the back of the rest. The recipient can simply peel off the pink cover and their tag will be self adhesive.

Tip: A needle threader was a huge help in pulling the thread through the tags as well as pulling the ribbon through the small punched holes on the topper. This is the method I used to attach the topper to the cello bag.
