Santa Punch Art

petal cone santa

I am sure you are wondering what in the world I am doing posting a Santa punch art tutorial in May! For those who are signed up for my newsletter, I am doing a series through Christmas geared toward organizing and preparing for the holidays early. Each newsletter has a section on getting ready for the holidays and each month on the 25th I am going to dedicate a post here with the same theme. The idea is to set aside specific day for working on creating the most fabulous holiday we can imagine. The series theme is A Pinterest Christmas, so you know we have a million ideas on that!  I chose the 25th of each month. Easy to remember. If you would like to play along, just sign up for my newsletter for the entire series. You can sign up by filling out the form in my side bar.

I was asked to share a tutorial for this punch art  Santa as part of the series. Since this ornament punch is retiring at the end of this month, I decided that I better hurry and fit it in now! Originally I used it on this petal cone die box (also retiring, which makes me very sad!). This tutorial shows an additional step or two for creating a hat for the santa.

You will need to punch the pieces as shown in this photo. Emboss a Whisper White piece of card stock using the Perfect Polka dot folder and punch an ornament, a large oval, two wings from the Bird Builder punch and the circle from Itty Bitty shapes. Then punch a Cherry Cobbler pennant with the Pennant builder punch, Blush Blossom Itty Bitty circle and 1 3/4″ circle and then two 1/4″ Basic Black circles. When you are punching the wings for the mustache, punch one and then flip the card stock over and punch the debossed side. This way you will have two wings pointing different directions.

Picture 37

Create a handle for the Large Oval piece and use the 1 3/4″ circle punch to trim away part of the Large Oval as shown.

Picture 39

Picture 43

Attach the partial oval piece to the pink circle and sponge on some cheeks using a sponge dauber and Blushing Bride ink.

Picture 44

Trim off the top of the ornament  and attach as shown.

Picture 45

Add the two wings to form the mustache. I did not pop these up for this sample, but I think I will from now on, it gives it more definition. Bend the pennant piece over as shown to form the hat.

Picture 47

Add the white circle to make a pom for the hat and attach as shown.

Picture 48

Finish the punch art piece by adding commas to the eyes, using a white gel pen.

Hearts A Flutter

Hearts a Flutter

Here is a sweet and simple valentine, created using the Hearts a Flutter set from the Spring Mini. Love that lacy heart stamp. I used a small strip of my Sweet Shop DSP (that is still on sale in the Clearance rack for $2.59. How FAB is that!?) The ribbon is from the Sale-a-bration Sycamore Street Ribbon and Button Pack. It is so nice to work with. I am hoarding this stuff.

Thanks for looking!

Feeling Sentimental Sale-a-bration

Feeling Sentimental

This is one of my favorite Sale-a-bration items that can be chosen, FREE with your $50 purchase between January 22nd and March 22nd. That’s right, Sale-a-bration starts next week! If you haven’t gotten your Sale-a-bration brochure with the 19 products that you can choose free, email me and I’ll send you a copy. This is my favorite time of year at Stampin’ Up!

I chose the phone booth for a more masculine looking card, but I adore the other vintage images in this set as well. (A vintage bicycle and Ferris wheel). Love, Love, LOVE, this set! The card is very simple stamping and a little distressing.

That’s the Ticket

That's the Ticket

When I started this card, I planned to use the Hearts a Flutter set, but I started playing with the More Amore DSP and it took on a life of it’s own. The heart is snipped from one of the laser-cut sheets. It’s really just basic stamping and a little heat embossing. I sponged some Primrose Petals ink on the doily to make it blend a little better with the paper. The That’s the Ticket set, added the perfect finishing touch. There is so much to LOVE in this new Spring Catalog. It’s so easy to get beautiful cards with all of the wonderful new embellishments and tools!

I hope you get to stamp today!

Greeting Card Kids

Greeting Card Kids

It’s almost the end of September. The kids have been back at school for a few weeks now. I made this card in honor of fall which officially began last weekend. Someone needs to tell Mother Nature that she’s late to the game.

I used my sweet little Greeting Card Kids and the Storytime DSP for this card. They play together very nicely! I have to admit that after ignoring the 1/4 inch grosgrain ribbon for years and years, I am in love with our stitched replacement. I love the look and it is a little more supple, so it’s easy to tie. The apple button is from a big stash of buttons that were my mom’s. I just love incorporating some of her things into my cards, it’s like sending an extra special hug along with the card.

For the Birds

For the Birds

It took me a while to warm up to Daffodil Delight. It’s a happy yellow that isn’t as glaring as the old YoYo Yellow. I think it was my absolute aversion to the old neon yellow that kept me from embracing our more contemporary offering. Now that I have, I just can’t leave it alone!  Then again, maybe I am just in a cheery, summery mood. I have a feeling that is about to change, with all of the Holiday Catalog goodies I have to play with now. For today though, it is sunny, summer fun with this card using the For the Birds stamp set.

Happy Stampin!

Storybook Friends

Storybook friends

Meet my favorite new product suite in this catalog! I love this Storybook Friends set and the matching Storytime DSP. It’s so cute, sweet and nostalgic! Lots of new products on this card. I am so glad I finally got to play with some of my new stuff. The new Polka Dot Parade makes me joyful! I will be using every scrap of this stuff.

Don’t you just love the lacy little red border at the bottom? This is done with some really fun new tools. I used the Delicate Designs folders to make the lace border and then I cut the scallop at the bottom with the Large Scallop Edgelit. Then, last but not least, I LOVE the new Delicate Doilies Sizzlet die! The catalog lists the largest doily at 1 3/8″ Diameter, but as you can see it is 3 3/8″. I will be using these little darlings a LOT!

Thanks for stopping by!

Pedaling Past

Pedaling Past

This card makes me smile, I really love this set. I am kind of all over the map in the way that I design cards, especially lately. I usually start from an inspirational point and go from there, whether it is a design layout, or a color combination, a particular paper or set or technique. I started with the paper this time. I adore this Everyday Enchantment paper from the Saleabration collection. I will be very sad when I run out! I loved these two pieces together, so I decided on the layout and then went in search of the set to go with it. I ran across my retired Pedaling Past set and that was that.

I really like the way it turned out, it reminds me of summers past. I keep hearing that Country Time lemonade music in my head when I look at it!

Happy Stampin’
